'HippiePersonals.com is a peacenik progressive personals portal for good green peoples to mingle with singles and other like-minded intelligent folks for friendship and dating' is what it says on the home page, and why not. Alternative people often have difficulty finding like-minded singles on the straight dating sites, and if military men and women can have their own site to find others who like to wear uniforms, then why not the freethinkers concerned with the state of the environment and animal rights.
This has the look of a site which hasn't been going for long, and in line with its client base, is somewhat chaotic but friendly and genuine. Nothing slick or professioanl here! You can search without registering, although, being US based, it is a bit sparse in other nationals. A search for UK singles wishing to meet friends or soul mates resulted in three hits under females, and a dozen for males [many of whom didn't look at all hippy]. Clearly it needs more clients to sign up to make it more useful, or perhaps alternative people generally have alternative means of meeting each other and don't need online dating so much. Either way, it's free, so nothing lost in giving it a try. Registering takes a little time and necessitates retrieving a link emailed to the address you give, but then, unlike other sites reviewed, you have to wait a couple of days for your application to be reviewed by the site owners before you're finally accepted. This seems unnecessarily long-winded, if other sites can have you online and searching within a few minutes, one wonders why this one has to take several days to suss you out. Perhaps they're paranoid of being infiltrated by the feds! Perhaps with good reason in the US where alternative people can be given a pretty hard time, especially in times of war.
It's possible that this concept doesn't translate well from the US to the UK [or any other countries] so it might be that a wholly UK site for hippies and other alternative people would be more effective. It would only be of use in major cities however, as in most towns, the alternative scene is a social scene as well, and thus everyone knows everyone else. On a wider scale though, and in rural areas, there are many isolated individuals through no fault of their own who might find it very useful to connect with like-minded people, even if they weren't that close geographically. After all, email is a great way to build relationships and the UK is relatively small, so no one is too remote to connect up and one day meet if they find their soul mate.
